(Scene) My neighbor, Holly, came over to return a couple of DVD’s she had borrowed. One of them happened to be one of Alyssa’s favorite DVD’s, Praise Baby. When Alyssa saw Holly holding it she said “Baby Praise!” and Holly said, “yes, do you want to have it?” She handed it to Alyssa and while Holly and I were talking, Alyssa was examining the DVD cover. Here’s where the quote of the day comes in.
Holly turned to leave and Alyssa said “Thank you VERY much!” While clutching the DVD to her chest.
Holly and I laughed because it caught us off guard that Alyssa would say that instead of “goodbye.” And it was really cute coming from the mouth of a 2 yr old.
THEN it hit me what Alyssa was really trying to convey. She was thanking Holly for GIVING her this DVD, as if it was a present to Alyssa. That made if funnier!
Additional Quote of the Day:
(Scene) Later on in the afternoon Alyssa was playing with Holly’s son, Taylor, who is 6 years old. Taylor was showing Alyssa how to hit a ball off of a T-Ball stand. He stood behind her, like in the movies, and gave her specific instructions on how to hold the bat, where to hit the ball, etc. Then it was Alyssa’s turn to try it out. She swung the bat and tapped the ball just hard enough so that it rolled off the end of the T-ball stand and plopped onto the ground.
Taylor stood with his hands on his hips looking at the ball sitting at the base of the stand and said to Alyssa: "Oh Alyssa, let me just tell you, um, that wasn’t the best hit, but over time I think you’ll get better.”
