The Elephants

Our dear sweet apartment, how we love you so.

It's not your fault that you were given faulty loud appliances that don't work well.  But don't worry, when they break, know that I will be on the phone within minutes ordering you a new one from the maintenance shop.  I know how you love your maintenance guys, so that's why I keep 'em coming over to our home at least every other week.  Although I think they love you more than me, so I may have to cut down on those calls.

We are sorry that a family of elephants moved in upstairs. I know you are old and you can barely deal with them stepping all over you let alone shield us from the noise as they stomp around their forest. We are as surprised as you that we can hear them "making rain" in the bathroom, discussing dinner plans and getting up at 5 am to go to work.

I wanted to let you know that Alyssa also feels your sympathy about the elephants.  I'm sure you have seen her jump and then stare at the ceiling when the elephants get up from the couch to stretch their legs.  She also apologizes for waking up crying while napping the last couple of days.  I mean, I'm sure Alyssa would normally love to be woken up by elephants when napping, if she could only see them and not just hear their sudden creaking footsteps.  So of course she cries when the elephants roam, I mean wouldn't you want to cry if you were jolted from your sleep.

I also wanted to take this time to personally apologize for cutting off your power almost every morning.  It's just that sometimes I forget to turn off all the lights in the house, silly me, before I turn on the hair dryer.  But don't worry, I just got a hair cut, so hopefully I can dry my hair under the allotted 7 1/2 minutes you allow me to power my hair dryer - even with the lights off.

I just wanted to give you ample notice that we will be leaving you as soon as our lease is up in 10 months.  I know it seems like such a short time we will be together and I'm sure it will be a sad departure, but our family is growing and we are looking for a place that has more than one cupboard that can fit our plates and maybe a linen closet.  I know, I know, it's so modern of us to want a place where our washer/dryer isn't in our kitchen and our bedroom has walking space, but really it's Luke's fault.  I mean I would love to stay here, but he's always like "let's spend more money and get a bigger place."  So as a dedicated wife, I do what my husband wants.  Because even though he's never said that out loud, I know he's thinking it.

Dear apartment, there is one thing I don't understand. What is that loud Woodpecker sound the fireplace makes in the afternoon when Alyssa is napping?!  How I hate it so.

We really do love the way you keep us warm from the snow!

Yes I agree with Jacob! Very poetic. I hope the elephants go on vacation soon!
