Learning On Her Own

Friday, 9 January 2009 04:21 by sabrina

Alyssa is at that age where she is learning faster than we can keep track. For example, one day she couldn’t do puzzles on her own and the next she could do all three of her puzzles with no problem.

Today I was upstairs folding clothes (what a great homemaker I am!) and Alyssa was working on a little fishy puzzle that Grandma Coco had bought for her. Each fish is a different color and I noticed all of the sudden that she was saying some of the colors as she was putting them in the puzzle! Where did she learn that? I certainly didn’t teach her the colors. I had tried to teach her a couple of months ago but she didn’t quite get it then. Maybe she just spent the last couple of months absorbing what I taught her :)

Anyway, here is a video we shot this morning to document her progress in recognizing her colors:

Don’t pay too much attention to her outfit. I was just having her try on some new clothes she just got.

What’s going on?

Tuesday, 4 November 2008 08:25 by sabrina

I feel like I used to be so organized with all the baby stuff.  You know like having diapers, wipes, snacks at all times where ever I was.  Well now days it’s such a event to get 2 kids out the door that I try to remember those things, but it just doesn’t always happen.

The other day I’m in a public bathroom changing Alyssa and frantically searching my purse to find only the newborn diapers!  I’m standing there thinking….do I put back on the dirty diaper?  NO ew!  Leave her with no diaper on?  NO WAY! I’m not cleaning pee out of my car.  So I did the only thing I could…put her in a newborn diaper.  To my surprise it totally fit and when we got home I took a picture of her in her newborn diaper! It was a little snug, but it did the job. lol

I’ve also had to used wet paper towels for wipes and I’ve found that Alyssa doesn’t mind stale fishy crackers (the ones that have been in the backseat of my car for over 2 weeks opened). lol Ah well.

Elephants and the Fishbowl

Thursday, 15 May 2008 06:37 by sabrina

In edition to the elephants that live upstairs and the car jackers who live across the way, we also have an intriguing neighbor that lives in the building next to us.  It's a girl who lives right in front of the parking lot and has 2 big corner picture windows facing the walkway from the parking lot. Anyone who parks their car and walks through the courtyard to their apartment, like we have to do, has a theatre viewing of her apartment - that is if the blinds are open which they are most of the time.  During the day there is not much to notice because although the blinds are open it's darker inside and you just mostly notice furniture or her cat sitting in the window, but in the evening when she has her lights on you can't help but notice what's going on as you walk from your car to your apartment.

So when we get home after dark, Luke usually says "Well let's see what's going on in the Fishbowl tonight."  The usual things that go on in the fishbowl include the girl watching T.V. and sometimes eating dinner at her coffee table and sometimes hanging out with a guy or on the weekends sometimes there are several of her friends over, but nothing out of the ordinary.

But the other night when we were returning from an evening out, Luke says to Alyssa "What do we have going on in the Fishbowl tonight?  Maybe some friends over?"  Then all at once we take a glance and then Luke says "Just walking to the kitchen with a chainsaw."  Then we both crack up laughing because there really was this girl, the girl who lives there, walking to the kitchen holding a chainsaw in the air.  So of course Luke continues to make chainsaw comments all the way home, "Yeah just taking my chainsaw to the kitchen for a snack." etc. It was the funniest thing.  What the heck is she doing with a chainsaw and at night none the less?! lol

Elephants

Oh and for those of you following the elephant saga.  Last week I found peanut shells on the sidewalk and on the stairs leading up to their apartment.  How funny is that.  So I guess I picked a good name for them.
