Snaggletooth Comes Into View

Besides Luke's mom and sister (Peggy and Angie) who came to visit us last week, we had another snaggletooth come to visit and we got a really good picture of the pair this weekend.

Lake Washington Boat Tour 2008-03-22 024

But not to fret, one of her front teeth showed up today, Easter Sunday!  So hopefully in a few weeks she'll have all four of her front teeth and won't look like baby Dracula anymore!

The Characters of Easter

Speaking of Easter Sunday, our pastor gave a really great sermon that was pretty refreshing from the typical traditional Easter Sunday Sermons.  He focused on the characters of the story and to emphasize the 'reality' of the story.  So we learned about Pilate, Judas, Simone of Cyrene, Barabbas, Joseph of Arimathea and Thomas.  I really enjoyed learning about some of the smaller "characters" that I never even thought about before.  Because I know about Pilate, the judge guy who washed his hands of the fate of Jesus and of course there was Judas one of the twelve disciples who proactively betrayed Jesus (although who felt deep remorse for what he did and hung himself).  But I hadn't heard of or maybe didn't remember the significance of the roles played by Simone of Cyrene, Joseph of Arimathea and Thomas.  Who are they you say?  Well look it up for yourself as you may be surprised at their small yet significant role in the story:

Simone of Cyrene

Luke 23:26, Mark 15:21 and Matthew 27:32  Wouldn't it suck to be standing along the sidelines and be pulled into the story like that!

Joseph of Arimathea

Luke 23:50-53, Mark 15:42-46 and Matthew 27:57-60 What a nice old man huh?

Thomas

John 20:24-29 Ah right, the famous "Doubting Thomas" He's even famous on Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubting_Thomas

And with that note "...Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20:29

Baskets of Fun

Because Luke and I don't drink coffee on a regular basis, I made Easter baskets for Peggy and Angie filled with coffee and chocolate treats which turned out really cute.  I wish I had pictures, but they opened them as soon as they arrived (so they would have their coffee each morning while they were here) and I didn't get a picture.

Easter Sunday 2008-03-23 010But here is a picture of Alyssa after church with her Easter basket in her fancy Easter dress my mom bought for her.  Her basket was filled with a couple of small soft balls, a wooden lamb, a pink plastic slinky and a pair of maraca's (which was her favorite toy from the basket).  That's the thing with the little ones, you never know what they'll like, I thought it might be the slinky.

And of course here is a picture of Alyssa when she found

out there there was no candy in her Easter basket!

Family

So as I mentioned before, Luke's mom and sister came to visit and did the whole touristy thing which was a lot of fun.  We toured Pike's Market, the First Starbucks, the underground hidden city of Seattle, the locks, a water tour of houses around Lake Washington (including Luke's boss's house-the well known Bill Gates, hehe) and the amusement park at the Space Needle/Experiencing Music Project area.  We also ate at some fantastic restaurants including an amazing quaint Italian restaurant and along the water for some authentic sea food (of which I didn't take part, Alyssa and I had Chicken. hehe) Oh and of course we went to the Microsoft store where Angie (Luke's sister) bought a geek t-shirt and coffee mug...actually she bought a coffee mug at almost every place we toured! hehe  Here are a few pictures from our weekend.

During the tour someone laughed really loud and scared Alyssa so we walked off on our own for a bit.  Gosh - so sensitive!  But then was of course happy again when her Aunt Angie held her. :)

 Walking Around Seattle 2008-03-22 009

Here's myself, Alyssa and Angie with the copper firemen who unsuccessfully fought the downtown fires of Seattle.  It's not their fault that when some melty wax exploded and caught fire the store next door was a dynamite storage center AND the entire city was constructed of wooden structures!  At least miraculously no one died!

Peggy, Angie, Luke & Alyssa at the amusement park next to the Space Needle/EMP building eating cotton candy and snow cones...well except for Alyssa.

Last but not least, we have a picture of Angie & Alyssa outside of the Space Needle.  Angie couldn't convince us to go up the needle, but we did go into the gift shop where she surprisingly did not buy a coffee mug! :) Next time we'll treat her to dinner at the space needle to make up for us not wanting to go this time around.

Stop It Already!

Saturday, 15 March 2008 06:36 by sabrina

It's okay to talk...

I don't know where she gets it from, but she is quite the talker.  She preaches about this and that and the other and babbles on and on and on about nothing.  It's become quite the norm especially at meal times.

I can't eat these Cherios!    There are just too many of them. And I am too tired.

Here she is telling us about why she can't eat her last two Cheerios.  She's trying to hid them from us by putting them out of her sight, right next to the edge of her tray.

But it's not okay to yell.

So for the past week or so every time we sit down to dinner, she of course gets her Cheerio appetizer and then we all eat our meal together.  She usually just has whatever we are having unless it's too spicy or what not.  Well lately as soon as she gets a bit of her dinner she begins to yell.  Different from screaming, her yelling is not high pitched or angry it's just very, very, very loud.  So she's made it a habit to yell during dinner.  Great.  Of course we tell her "Alyssa, stop!"  or "You need to be quiet!"  etc.  But of course that doesn't stop her, she just continues on.  So lately Luke is like, well every time she opens her mouth to yell I'm just going to shove some food in her mouth.  Right. So he does this and we both laugh and Alyssa just looks at us like 'huh, okay', eats her bite and attempts to yell again, but of course Luke is there with the spoon shoveling it in.  But then eventually she has so much food in her mouth she can't really chew AND she still manages to yell.  So eventually we have to call dinner quits and take her out of her chair and put her on the floor to play.

So suggestions welcome...comment below.

I have a question!
Yes Alyssa, do you have a suggestion?

Car Jacked

Saturday, 8 March 2008 07:36 by sabrina

Well Alyssa came down with her first fever this morning 101.8.  Poor thing.  It's because of her snaggletooth so hopefully she'll feel better tomorrow.  So she was quite the grump today and did not want to take any naps, which is totally understandable -I guess, although if I was sick I'd want to be sleeping.  So it's 9pm and she's so tired, rubbing her eyes, etc, but will not go to sleep.  At the same time the thought of ice cream is creeping into my mind so I make a suggestion of going for an ice cream run which will kill two birds with one stone (make Alyssa fall asleep).  So we're walking out to the car and we see them- the car jackers.  Luke and I give each other "the look."  They're getting out of their short ugly silver car and starring at us very obviously.  When we get in the car I sit there for a minute and then say, "Do you think they're going to jack our spot?"  You see we have one assigned covered parking space and then our other car is subjected to finding it's own spot.  Under normal circumstances I would put my car in the covered spot, but there is this unbelievably amazing 1st tier open spot on the end that is really close to our apartment.  It's basically the best spot for our apartment and I'm usually ALWAYS in it because it's "my spot."  But this last week there has been this short ugly silver car that has jacked my spot several times and it really "urkes" me.  So tonight while we were gone for about 15 minutes they totally moved their car about 5 feet from the 2nd best spot to the 1st tier parking spot.  Can you believe it - we got car jacked!  Suck.

Snaggletooth

Saturday, 8 March 2008 07:36 by sabrina

It's been a while since I've blogged and Melissa's giving me a hard time about it. It's just that we've been super busy with all our friends and such. hehe yeah right. So here's an update for ya'll. (Mostly about Alyssa)

SnaggletoothLuke's Birthday 2008-01-30 002

So all the moms I've talked to say the same thing about teeth. First you get the front bottom two and then you get the top front two and then they come in randomly from there. Well we've got a snaggletooth on our hands. The other day I was looking in Alyssa's mouth and I was like "What the heck! NO -can't be!" Our daughter is 10 months old and already defiant. She is not ordering her teeth to come in like they are supposed to. She somehow got her order mixed up for her teeth and ordered a tooth just to the left side of the placement for her middle front teeth. She's getting a snaggletooth! So of course when I saw this I immediately got online and began browsing professional photography studios. We have to get our/her picture taken before this tooth comes in all the way! Yikes.

Defiance Continues

As she is getting older she refuses to listen to what we say.  Like for instance we tell her it's time she starts crawling, but does she crawl - no.  She has figured out how to scoot across the floor on her bottom while sitting up, weird I know. Ah well.  Oh, but seriously she got this weird thing from Luke.  She refuses to eat the last bite of food on her tray.  For instance if we give her some Cheerios she'll eat all but one - AND then ask for more!  Sometimes we can trick her by picking up the last Cheerio and "re-dropping" it on the tray and then she'll eat it because she thinks we're just giving her a new one.  Strange little girl we have.

Look Before You Smell

We've learned a lot of things while being parents, but some things you learn the hard way. For instance the other day I was in the kitchen and I hear Luke tell Alyssa that he thinks he smells something poopy coming from her area. The next thing I hear is "UH!!!" I was thinking, oh it must smell pretty bad this time around, but no. Then he's like "Help!" I was thinking, okay fine I'll come help change the diaper, but no. When I get close he shoves me the baby and on his way to the bathroom is like, "Uh! I should have looked before I smelled." I of course am cracking up and I don't really even know what happened - but it has to be funny right? So then I get the real story. When he lifted her up to smell her back he got poop on his nose because she had pooped up her back (which she has not done in a VERY long time). So I grabbed a bunch of paper towels to lay her down on and I cleaned her up while Luke went to clean off his nose. So gross huh! AND amazingly it only got a little on her shirt and none on her pants!

Crazy Hair

I tend to go to Safeway a lot these days. It allows me to 'go shopping' without 'going shopping' if you know what I mean. I still get to slide my gold card, but don't have to feel guilty about it even if the total hits $100. So I'm there the other day and I run into a guy clerk who sees Alyssa and starts oogling over her. He asks her name and then we move to the next isle. 7-8 isles later we bump into him again and he's like "what a cute name, Alexis -2008-01-10 001 I bet you call her Lexi for short huh?" I was so flabbergasted that I just stood there smiling and starred at him as he walked away. So what you don't know is that when we were trying to pick a name for Alyssa I loved the name Lexi, but I couldn't convince Luke. He said if we did name her Lexi it would have to be Alexis and then call her Lexi for short. But then we finally agreed on Alyssa because we both equally liked it, but how wierd is that! Then to top it off I'm at the check out counter and the lady behind the cash register looks at Alyssa and is like also oogling over her. (Think high pitched old lady voice when you read this) "oh hi there little cuttie, oh lookie there, she need her hair brushed" Again. I just stood there smiling, starring at the lady like - uh did you just tell me that I need to brush my baby's hair? lol Okay so Alyssa does have crazy hair, there is no denying that, but if you brush it - it gets worse! lol I try to put it up in a pony tail sometimes, but then Luke goes around calling her Deb from Napoleon Dynamite. So I can't win. hehe

Singleton

So we went for our ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and it turns out there is just one baby in there. Just thought I'd let you all know so you can stop buying sets of outfits. hehe Oh - while we were waiting for the test we sat next to a lady wearing a bright orange outfit. It wouldn't have been that strange except for her "partner" was wearing a sheriff's badge and a gun!  Yikes.
